Climate Action Plan
Vail has adopted the goals of the 2020 Climate Action Plan Update for Eagle County, which include a 25% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2025 compared to the 2014 baseline inventory, a 50% reduction in emissions by 2030 and an 80% reduction by 2050. Town staff are tracking emissions and working on strategies to reduce emissions both internally and community-wide. Some of the biggest opportunities to reduce emissions are commercial buildings (the #1 source of Vail’s emissions) and transportation (the #2 source).
The Climate Action Plan calls for:
- Immediate emergency-grade action on climate
- Prioritization of strategies within the 2020 plan update to immediately reduce carbon emissions
- Timely achievement of carbon pollution goals
- A commitment to a healthier and more resilient future for our Eagle County community
With our Climate Action Collaborative partners, we have established a framework to strategize and deliver on greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions within the Buildings, Materials Management, Energy Supply, and Transportation sectors, as well as mechanisms to enhance efforts for education and outreach, water conservation, and carbon sequestration.
