The Town of Vail is a Silver Bicycle Friendly Community as selected by the League of American Bicyclists following a recent assessment. The award recognizes Vail for its commitment to creating transportation and recreational resources that benefit its residents of all ages and abilities while encouraging healthier and more sustainable transportation choices.
Vail’s silver ranking is good through 2025 and is due, in part, to the town’s extensive recreation trail system and mountain biking facilities as well as the community’s longstanding enthusiasm for biking. In recent years, the town has widened shoulders along frontage roads, added bicycle markings on other streets and implemented bike advisory lanes. In addition, the Sandstone underpass includes bicycle lanes and an improved access point to the Gore Valley Trail.
As part of the EV Readiness Plan adopted by the Town of Vail, there is a focus on increasing micromobility as an alternative to driving personal vehicles. Electric bikes (e-bikes) are an excellent option to commute differently and the town has several programs to help get more people out their cars and commuting differently including an e-bike share, e-bike rebates, and an income qualified e-bike ownership program. Learn more about each below.
