There are many opportunities around Vail and Eagle County to dispose of items.

Motor Oil and Antifreeze: The Town of Vail collects used oil and antifreeze free of charge from Vail households. Oil or antifreeze may be dropped off from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Town of Vail’s Public Works fleet facility at 1309 Elkhorn Drive. Oil and antifreeze should not be contaminated with any other product. Freon and tires are not accepted. For more information, call 970-479-2162.

Household Hazardous Waste and Electronic Waste (e-waste) can be disposed of at the Eagle County Landfill Household Hazardous Waste facility in Wolcott. Residents are allowed to deliver up to 20 HHW items for free each visit. Fees include:

 -Electronics - $0.40 per pound - Effective January 1, 2026
 - Latex Paint - $0.60 per pound - Effective January 1, 2026
 - Flammable Liquids and Paint - $0.70 per pound - Effective January 1, 2026

See the Eagle County Household Hazardous Waste website for specific details on what is accepted.

Furniture, Household Items and Clothing: If an item is in good working order, consider donating it to the Vail Valley Cares Thrifty Shop or the Habitat Re-Store in Gypsum.

Scrap metal can be taken to Trinity Recycling, and you can be paid for the value of the material. They also accept tires and appliances. They charge a fee for freon removal.

You can also drop items off at our Hard To Recycle Event on May 8th, 2026. More information about the event and specific items accepted can be found here.
