Vail Values Biodiversity
In an effort to protect habitat and keep natural spaces natural, over 33 percent of the Town of Vail has been purchased by the town to be saved as open space for future generations.
Consisting of parks, stream tract, natural areas, and conservation easements, Vail manages more than 650 acres of these protected public lands. Open space is critical habitat for wildlife and a place of refuge for the entire Vail community, including residents, visitors, and the plants and animals that call this place home.
Biodiversity is the number and amount of different types of living things in a place. More protected habitat leads to more wildlife and plants that can survive and thrive here. The greater our biodiversity, the stronger and more resilient our ecosystem is for us all.
